Applications are now being accepted for the first Multimedia Seminar for High School Journalists on July 9-11, 2012 at Liberty North High School and Northwest Missouri State University. More than 30 top high school journalists from the United States are invited to an intensive two-day training seminar in photography, videography, reporting, social media, design and web followed by a simulated news event that offers hands-on experience in developing multimedia pieces and working as a team.

The seminar will offer students an introduction to beginning/advanced training, opportunities to build their portfolio for early internship applications, equipment and software training and networking opportunities with peers and industry professionals.

Students will also have the opportunity to network and learn from professionals from the following companies and organizations- VML, KSHB-41 (NBC affiliate), KMBC-9 (ABC affiliate), Kansas City Star, Lawrence Journal World, WDAF-4 (FOX affiliate), Kansas City Royals, St. Joseph News Press, Red Rocket, Metro Sports, KQ2 and KZLX 106.7 FM.

The cost for MSHSJ 2012 is 86$ (estimate), which includes  two days of intense training at Liberty North High School and third day of travel to and from Northwest Missouri State University.

The program is sponsored by the Mass Communication Department in the Melvin D. and Valorie G. Booth College of Business and Professional Studies at Northwest Missouri State University. The Mass Communication Department provides and supports training to prepare students for collegiate journalism programs.
